Auto Electronics: Heater/air conditioner blower/fan, 1999 Buick Le Sabre, A/C heater

Question
Hi Antonio, I have a 1999 Buick Le sabra with a 3.8 v-6. My problem is the blower fan will only blow on the low and medium settings but will not work when switched to high setting. The auto parts store recommended that I replace the blower resistor, the part with the three curly wires located in the engine compartment on the firewall which I replaced, however that didn't correct the problem. Any sugestions I can try would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Bruce,

This problem occurs quite frequently with Buick Le Sabres made in the late 90's.

I wish you had contacted me earlier, we could have saved you the money on the blower resistor.  The Resistor, very rarely will go bad.  It is made to last, its one part that Buick made VERY WELL.

Obviously either the auto parts employee didn't know anything about what was going on or was just trying to sell you the more expensive part.

This problem is a common one with Buick.  I would suggest you replace the switch itself, the one that controls the low med and hi settings.  I am almost certain this is where the problem lies and would bet that if you replace that switch it will correct the problem.  Chances are the contact for the HI setting is no good, common problem with this switch.

Try that and let me know how you make out.  If you can not find the part at your local auto part store i recommend calling Buick directly to get an OEM replacement, i would do this anyway as OEM replacements have a better warranty and last longer then aftermarket parts.

Good Luck.

Please Let me know how you make out.

Thank You
