Question
1992 Cadillac Car - DeVille

Vin #: 1G6CD53B3N4319990
Engine Size: 4.9L
Number of Cylinders: 8 Cylinders
Drive Train: FWD
Transmission: Automatic
Number of Doors: 4 Doors

PROBLEM:  Turn on the key and all dash lights go on.  Doors lock.  Security light goes on for a couple of seconds and then goes out.  Dash lights go out except for “Service Engine Soon”  Service Vehicle Soon” and “Charge” and “oil”
Turn key to start position and nothing happens.

An additional problem I have is the steering column and the transmission linkage.  I can’t figure out how to connect up the shift lever with the cable.  I didn’t disconnect anything when I dropped the column so I am at a loss there.

OPERATIONS PERFORMED/PARTS REPLACED:

Battery replaced
Starter ignition switch.(mounted on the top side of steering column) replaced
Starter Relay (located behind the glove box, up high) replaced
Bypassed security system with resisters (cut orange sheathing off two small gauge wires and put 2.38 A resisters in line.  Same resistance as the key.
Turned key to on position and pressed OFF and WARMER and held it until the entire panel lit up.   Waited and after a short period, the following was displayed:

Answer
Well,

You start off with your problems and then you say you dropped the column.

You didn't indicate the reason for this. Did you change columns? If so why?

Working with steering columns is an art. They should not be disassembled or screwed with by someone not familiar with all the quirks. Most mechanics that do not understand them leave the job to experts such as my self.

I have no idea of what you did here and cannot answer your question until you tell me exactly what you did and why.
