QuestionQUESTION: Hi, I have a 94 Eldorado. The service engine soon light keeps coming on. At first it was once or twice a week, now its every day. I know how to pull the codes, and have done so just to find no trouble codes. The car seems to be running fine. Great gas mileage, no smoke, knock, jerks any thing. We keep the car well maintained. Just wondering if anyone has any idea what could be wrong.

ANSWER: As soon as the check engine light illuminates, Check for codes with the engine running .
What sequence are you using to retrieve the codes ?.
Sounds like a vacuum leak.

QUESTION: with the switch on, but car not running I press the off and warmer button. It pulls up no sir ect then gets to pcm? then I turn the switch off. I was told this was the end. Is this correct? Is there another way to check them?Thanks for answering so fast.
ANSWER: That IS the correct way. You can even check for codes as your driving the vehicle down the road. As soon as the light comes ON, Check for codes while driving the vehicle.

QUESTION: Ok, I tightend the gas cap up (someone said it would make the engine light come on) and drove the car for a few hours. No light came on. I untightened the cap and before I could even pull out the gas station the light came on. I checked the codes while driving and got a p085 (idle throttle angel too high) I then pulled over tightend the gas cap again erased the code while driving went to a few stores and after 3 hours of driving never got the light again. Could the gas cap cause the p085 or is this just 2 things happening at the same time.

AnswerWhat you have is a residue buildup around the throttle plate and within the throttle body of which you will need pictures and the procedure for cleaning these areas.
