Cadillac Repair: Couple Questions, dexcool coolant, antifreeze coolant

Question
QUESTION: Hello Ron!
I have a little problem with my windshield wipers the one on the passengers side has all of a sudden stopped working and the one on the drivers side works fine. Do you have any idea why that happened?? Also since i have a GM car am I suppose to ONLY use GM dexcool coolant?? If I am, I have heard that dexcool is very bad for you car is that true??

ANSWER: Hi Brittanni,

I can only give you an idea on one of your questions. I have no idea about the antifreeze/coolant.

As for the right wiper chances are pretty good that you have a wiper transmission problem. Being that the linkage arms would most likely be the problem, I would think the splines are stripped where the wiper arm attaches to the base of the transmission on the passenger side. Have the arm removed. If this is the problem, the damage should be obvious and the passenger splined end will need to be replaced.

QUESTION: Okay thank you very much. Do you have any idea how much this might cost??

Answer
Hi,

Labor should not be any more than 2 hours, probably less.
I would recommend going new only for the fact that you won't have the problem again. This is something a regular mechanic can look at and probably repair. I would not recommend a dealer. I really have no idea on the cost of parts.
To confirm if the gear at the base of the wiper is stripped or if a linkage arm fell off, shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to confirm the exact problem by a compitent mechanic.
