Cadillac Repair: 2000 Eldorado horn not working, horns inop

Question
Horn will not work on steering wheel. Horn sounds when locked with remote.

Answer
Hi Ron,

Since the horns "play" useing the remote the problem could be in the steering column. If it were me I would look at the wireing diagram to find the wire comming from the horn at the bottom connector of the steering column. I would use a voltmeter or 12 volt testlight on that wire and press the horn pad. If I don't get a reading then I would take the airbag/horn pad off and test the wire at the top by grounding it and see if the horn works. If it does then you would need to replace the airbag or see if new contacts are available for it. Otherwise the clockspring might be open and need to be replaced.

Since your car has the airbag I would highly reccommend that you have your mechanic check and fix the horn problem because if you test the wrong wire the airbag can go off and it makes quite a loud noise and people have been known to get seriously hurt. Bill
