Cadillac Repair: Torq Converter Stuck, torque converter, cadilac

Question
I have a 2002 Cadilac Deville with 46000 miles on it that I bought recently. (7-8 weeks ago) The check engine light came on for a day or two and then went out.  We had it checked out and was told the Torq Converter is stuck and would be a very expensive repair.  Questions:  Can I tell if the Torq Converter is really stuck?  Should I get a second opinion?  What is "danger" of continuing to drive the car?  There are no problems that I can sense while driving the car.  Occasionally my wife says she hears a little extra noise, but nothing else.

Answer
The extra noise is because you are not getting the OVERDRIVE gear for the transmission.

The TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID which is located behind the side cover of your transmission behind the drivers side front tire has to come OFF and the solenoid replaced.

This requires splitting the trans and engine apart to replace the solenoid. It can be done without pulling the engine or transmission out of the vehicle by seperating them just enough to get your hands in there to replace it.

I have heard that you can get it replaced for about $600-$800 at a repair facility that knows how to do the short cut.
