Cadillac Repair: 2006 deville water pump replacement, water pump replacement, negative battery

Question
Sir,                                                           I would like to ask you how to change the water pump on my 2006 deville(not high out put).i looked at it pretty closely and it appears to come out with the thermostat housing and the aluminum back cover.I can't tell if the pump slides right out of the housing or do i need pulley pulling tools?I live far from dealer i purchased car from and don't have any faith in the local dealerships.the water is definitely not circulating and i pulled and tested the thermostat.i replaced since i had it out.But i really need to know if it,s as easy as it looks or is there something i am missing?also do the housing around the thermostat and water pump need to be torqued to a certain lb.?                  Thank You Very Much,Tom Lynagh

Answer
This can be done, but Cadillacs are notorius for letting their mechanics get the point that you need to be very well trained to work on them, because the clearance in the engine bay is rediculously bad. If youve never done this before, dont try it out now. I would hate to see a beautiful 06 deville seize itself. But if you would like to try it, its basically the following.
*Disconnect the negative battery temrinal.
1. remove the hoses, belt, and any components in the way. 2. unbolt the water pump, remove it from engine.
3. CAREFULLY manouver the new pump in place, definately replace the seal and apply a small bead of water pump RTV.
4. rebolt it, put the pulley back on and then the belt, allow the RTV to set and dry.
5. Re-attach hoses and start it up, allow motor to reach operating temp and check for leaks.
