Cadillac Repair: heating system/turn indicators, fuse panel, side firewall

Question
Hello,I have just purchased an 89 eldorado biaritz, and I,m having some issues with both my heating system and inside turn signal indicators.
1st:My heating and defrosting system rarely works, when i push the buttons to turn them on I can hear the clicks as if something is happening, but I get no air to blow out with either the heater or the defroster, but sometimes it will just start up when I,m driving, afetr going thru this site it seems as if maybe i need to replace the module and the blower motor??Is this my possibility, heat would really be nice at this time of year and also can these parts be purchased aftermarket or just from a dealer??
2nd:When I turn on my turn signals, the outside signals flash but they seem to flash kind of fast, but the indicators inside don,t flash at all, again reading this site it seems as if I need to replace the flasher itself, but I thought I,d ask before I start buying parts that are not going to help me.Any help you can give me would GREATLY be appreciated!!Thanks in advance,Mike

Answer
The heating system sounds like either a bad connection or a malfunctioning evaporator and bypassed heater core to me, a $2 can of electric contact cleaner wont hurt anything. Clean all the connectors going to the blower motor, make sure its not being clogged. clean the fuse panel, check the blower motor fuse, make sure its the right amperage. Next replace your thermostat, its a good idea[for a 17 y.o. car] to flush the cooling system and fill it up with dex cool at this time.
After this if the heat and defroster still dont work check to see if the a.c works and blows cold. Also, look under your hood on the passenger side firewall, you should see on the firewall two valves that have black hoses going to them, if one is off then your heater core has been bypassed and probably for a good reason, this will need to be replaced.
If the a/c doesnt blow cold or at all the two basic problems are an unsufficient charge of refrigerant in your system, or the evaporator is probably blown, these is not cheap and you will want to replace it. I dont want to dissapoint you but if your a/c system is bad and most of it needs to be replaced its going to cost about 1/2 of how much the car is worth. But definately check the things i talked about they are all good possibilities.
