Cadillac Repair: transmission, CHECK ENGINE light, torque converter clutch, torque converter clutch solenoid

Question
1994 Eldorado V8 Northstar

1.  After about the 3rd or 4th time I start the car in a day, the CHECK ENGINE light comes on, but it seems to run ok.

2.  Once the car gets up to speed on the highway, usually between 65-70 mph, the overdrive seems to slip and the rpms jump up and down, but the car does not go.  If I let off the gas and the rpms go down, in returns to normal.

Answer
Check the computers for fault codes.

1. Ignition ON. Engine OFF.

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons for 3 seconds and then release them.

3. Fault codes will begin to appear and then will stop.

4. Write down EVERY LETTER AND NUMBER exactly as it appears on the display.

5. Turn OFF the ignition.

6. Let me know what you wrote down.

If you lose track just repeat the above sequence.

If you have a video recorder, Record the whole sequence and e-mail it to me at: onlineautohelp@msn.com

Your problem is most likely the TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH solenoid ((TCC) solenoid) within the transmission.
