Cadillac Repair: 1996 Cadillac Seville SLS, cadillac seville sls, cadillac seville

Question
I have a 1996 Cadillac seville SLS and my service engine light just came on and the display reads "service transmission". I did the self diagnostic and it gives me code PC0717. I looked for information about on this code and i found out it is a sensor in the transmission. Is this a major repair? How much would you "guess-timate" this kind of repair to run me? Appreciate any and all the help/information you can give me.

Answer
I honestly can't remember off hand if the sensor is mounted on the outside case cover of the transmission or is under the side cover. I would have to see the trans to identify where it is.
