Cadillac Repair: Broken hood release cable 94 DeVille, hook tool, coat hanger

Question
The hood release cable appears to be broken at the latch end.  The cable moves freely and you can hear it slide but it is not engaged at the latch end.  How can I get the hood released?  To compound the problem, the battery is dead so I can't drive the car to a repair facility.  I am pretty mechanical but can't seem to find anything to release by looking thru the grill.  Help?  Thanks.

Mark

Answer
Hi Mark, Getting the hood open might be alittle difficult. Sometimes you can slide under the car and see the hood release when you look up and useing a coat hanger or hook tool pop the latch.

Charging the battery is a piece of cake. If you had an older cigar lighter adapter then you could charge the battery through it. Hopefully it will be 16 gauge or bigger wire otherwise just slow charge like the 10amp setting or less so the wires don't overheat and cause a fire. Just make sure that the positive lead of the battery charger is attached to the wire that goes to the center pin...useing an ohmeter to determine which one that is would help...and the black one from the charger to the other wire which goes to the outter terminal/clip because if you charge the battery backwards and then turn the key to on or start then there is no telling how many computors will get damaged or what other modules will be damaged because they don't like it when electricity  flows backwards.

If in doubt then you could always have the car towed to your mechanic. Bill
