Cadillac Repair: check engine light, control panel 1, letter combinations

I have had a hard time finding a code reader to troubleshoot the check engine light on my '88 cadillac deville. I have been told that there is a way to jumper a couple of fuses and the light will blink a certain # of times to give you a code; but then I wouldn't know what the code meant anyway!  Could you help?   Thanks, Jesse

NO-NO-NO-NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On your climate control panel:

1. Ignition ON, Engine OFF.

2. Simultaneously push and hold The OFF and WARMER buttons until you see the whole display illuminate then release the buttons.

3. The CODES will start to appear. Write them down EXACTLY in the ORDER in which they appear until they stop at .7.0.

4. Turn OFF ignition.


5. let me know the NUMBER/LETTER combinations that appear.
