Cadillac Repair: Cadillac Cattera 97, crankshaft position sensor, cam sensor

Question
My car will not start but all electral works on the car as well as it will crank well just wont actually start.  Looked at the crankshaft position sensor all seemed well cleaned it up a bit and still no go.  Was wondering if you have any suggestions as to what could be possible problems and what I should look at?

Answer
Hi,Drew

Ive had alot of Catera's no start due to failed crank sensors, though they look ok on the outside they fail internaly, the only real way to diagnose a failed crank sensor on the Catera is with a scan tool monitoring its 24x referance,so if i were to take a stab at it,it sounds like you may have in fact a failed crank position sensor.
You can also check fuel pressure, but ive seen these cars first roll off the trucks in 97 and to this day i have never had to change a fuel pump in one, hard to believe, but true, ive seen plugged fuel filters cause no starts also, due to loss of fuel pressure, also ive had a few with failed ignition coils, those also are checked using a scan tool, the tool bypasses crank and cam sensor sync and fires the coils on its own,but i would have those checked first before putting parts on it,you would need access to a scan tool to really determine what has failed.if you need more help let me know. Thanks
