Cadillac Repair: 96 Deville Compressor, clutch assembly, auto parts stores

Question
This is very similar to the "a/c compressor noise" dated 5/16/05, but I have a 96 DeVille. I have the same compressor noise and I believe it is the same problem, bearing/clutch assembly. How do you get to the compressor? Do you take the right front wheel off, or do you go up through the bottom? Also about the special tool, what is it and are they normally available for rent at major auto parts stores? Please offer a little more detail if you can.

Answer
without actually seeing where the compressor is located and the hundreds of cars that I am asked this question it is impossible to remember how each one comes off the engine.

Usually most larger auto parts stores will rent you the tools IF you purchase the parts from them to do the job.

NOTE: I have seen belts cause noises that seem to appear to be coming from the compressor. Make SURE that you do not have a cracked underside belt and or any small chunks missing from the belt before you condemn the compressor.
