Cadillac Repair: 2001 Seville STS front wheel bearing, front wheel bearing, seville sts

Question
I need a new wheel bearing on my STS, and I'm wondering if this is a job I can tackle myself.  A friend warned me that if it requires pulling the axle, I could risk damaging the transmission.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

Answer
If your referring to the outer wheel bearing in the HUB assembly where the tire and wheel mount onto, This does NOT require removal of the axle shaft from the vehicle.

All that is required is removal of the tire and wheel, The brake caliper, the brake rotor, removing the bolts that hold the axle shaft to the backside of the HUB assembly and removing the HUB bolts that hold the hub to the suspension. Once you have the hub off the bearing must be pressed out of the hub and a new one pressed in.
