Answer
Michael,

This display is ONLY an average mpg based on TOTAL fuel mileage calculated from the time you start the vehuicle in your driveway, run around town making frequent stops and starts, and highway mileage.

Do NOT rely on this TOTALLY USELESS piece of information as it is only there for some unknown reason. WHY they EVER put this in the vehicles year after yaer I will never know.

I have been explaining the meaning of these readings since they first put this display in the vehicle.

Calculate your fuel mileage the OLD FASHION way when you take a trip. Such as:

1. Fill the gas tank.

2. Drive 200 HIGHWAY miles.

3. Refill the fuel tank.

Divide the mileage by the amount of fuel gallons that you just put in to refill the tank.

EXAMPLE: You drove 200 miles. After you drove the 200
miles you stopped and refilled the fuel tank and
it took 10 gallons to refill the gas tank to
        full.

Therefore dividing the 200 miles by the 10
gallons of gas, You got 20 miles per gallon.

Again this display is ONLY an AVERAGE of all fuel consumed by the engine from the time you start the engine until you turn the engine OFF.

There is NOTHING more that I can tell you about this display. It will NEVER read the same everytime.
