Cadillac Repair: eletronic climate system, excessive amperage, autohelp

Question
In my 1988 Caddy Brougham I get little to no air flow when I turn on the heat.  The A/C doesn't work, but that's not important.  I want know why the blower doesn't stay running.  If it does stay running it a light breeze, even with being on high.  The guy you had the car before me had the same problem.  He rigged the blower motor with one wire to the Tan wire.  Another to the Ground feed both wires in under the steering wheel to a switch.  Now that rigged switch is not working either.

Answer
The most common failure is the FAN CONTROL POWER MODULE that is the controller for the blower fan. This is a very common part failure. In MOST cases the power module failes due to an excessive amperage draw due to a faulty blower motor and it is HIGHLY recommended that you replace the blower motor also.

You will have to undo the bypass that the previous owner installed and get the wiring back to where it is supposed to be FIRST.

The POWER MODULE costs about $125.00 and is relatively simple to install. Go to your dealer and ask to see one so you know what your looking for when you try and locate it on the vehicle. It is either mounted in the engine compartment near the blower motor or under the dash on the passengers side.

Also make sure that ALL your electrical connections from the power module to the blower motor are CLEAN and TIGHT.
