Chevrolet Repair: Reverse lights, reverse light switch, die grinder

Question
I have a 94 chevy k1500 5 speed and my problem is my reverse lights.  I know my problem but I'm not sure of the fix. The problem is the reverse light switch is not long enough to activate the lights.  I have pulled the switch out and pushed the ball on the end of the switch lights come on.  If I push the shifter to the passenger side of the truck lights come on. I am aware that there are two different length switches and I have the longer of the two it just seems to me like the switch should be a quarter of an inch longer.  Do you know where i can purchase a longer switch? This seems to be a common problem.

Answer
HI CHRIS,WE RAN INTO THIS A WHILE AGO..THERE ARE 2 DIFFERENT SWITCHES AS YOU SAY.THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO GET A LONGER SWITCH TO HIT THE SHIFT ROD TO TURN THE REVERSE LIGHT ON. THE PROBLEM IS IN THE TRANSMISSION ITSELF [ SHIFT TUBE ]IT WEARS DOWN JUST ENOUGH. I WILL TELL YOU WHAT WE DID AND IT WORKED GREAT,ON OUR TRANSMISSION WHERE THIS SWITCH WENT INTO THE TRANS WE GROUND OFF ABOUT 1/16" ON THE CASE ITSELF SO WHEN YOU PUT THE SWITCH BACK INTO THE TRANS IT WENT IN DEEPER. I THINK IF YOU LOOK AT WHERE THIS SWITCH GOES INTO THE TRANS THERE IS A LOT OF MEAT THERE TO GRIND DOWN. JUST DON'T GO CRAZY WITH IT,AND BECAREFUL OF THE INSIDE THREADS WE USED A DIE GRINDER WHEEL..OF COURSE THIS IS NOT THE CORRECT REPAIR METHOD,BUT IT WORKED. ON A OLD GIRL LIKE THIS,WHY NOT.. IT IS EITHER THIS WAY OR TAKE THE TRANS APART AND REPAIR..I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU. ALSO WHEN YOU LEAVE THIS SITE COULD YOU PLEASE RATE MY ANSWER.THANK YOU TOM..
