Chevrolet Repair: 79 chevy transmission problem, 79 chevy 4x4, forward gears

I have this 79 chevy 4x4, 350 eng. when I bought it, it had park and reverse, no forward gears at all. Ive dropped the tranny out with the intention of just replacing it. Before I do that do you have any sugestions of a possible remidy to fix what I already own?

 It would be best to just replace it unless you have the necessary equipment to rebuild a transmission.  The tools and experience required to properly repair an automatic transmission are a specialist issue.  Even if there was one broken component you would pretty much have to disassemble the entire trans to clean debris that might have been introduced by the failure.  The only thing you might be able to do is replace the pump in the front.  This is in no way an insult but you should stick to the RR and try and sell the old one as a core.
