Chevrolet Repair: 1999 Chevy Malibu (FUEL INJECTION?), chevy lumina, chevy malibu

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1999 Chevy Malibu...(3.1L Engine)... I'm replacing the engine with another 3.1L out of a Chevy Lumina... I've ran into a problem with the fuel injection. The fuel injection on the 3.1L 99 Malibu is different from the 3.1L from the Chevy Lumina... The 3.1L out of the Chevy Lumina is a 2000 Model its dfferent... So i was wondering if I could take the fuel injectors off the 99 3.1L and put them on the 2000 3.1L engine?

All answer appreciated... Let me know if you need me to elaborate further!

THanks!

ANSWER: Hey,

What do you mean by different. Different plugs, injectors, harness, fuel lines?

QUESTION: Wayne,

The plugs are different from what I see... So do you think if I replace the fuel injection on the 2000 3.1L Engine model with the fuel injection from the 1999 3.1L Engine Model would work? Or do you have an alternate route? What it all boils down to is that Im taking a 2000 Model 3.1L Engine out of a Chevy Lumina and Im putting it into my 1999 Chevy Malibu which has a 1999 3.1L Model Engine in it... (PLUGS ARE DIFFERENT!) So what do you think?

All responses are greatly appreciated!
Thanks In Advance!

Answer
HEy,

I don't want to give you bad advice so take heed to what I am saying in the next paragraph.

Those engines are pretty much the same but the injectors are different.  IF you look at them they look completely different.  If it was me and i had a shitload of time on my hands I would probably swap intakes when I did the job.  I would use the bottom end and heads from the new unit but all of the intake and electronics from the old.
I don't get into scenarios like that much because at 85 bucks an hour I don't want to waste my time or my clients time.  I am not insulting you in the least little bit.  I actually give you credit for doing a job like that but I don't know the exact fitment dates of those vehicles.  When I do something I need ot have turnaround time.  When a client brings a car in at 8am they usually need it by 5 to go to hockey with the kids and in my case I would have not started the job unless i could get the exact same parts.  I understand where you are coming from and I do have some resources that I can pull on if you want to know all of the specifics but without looking at it I can't really advise on the proper perfect way.  I would imagine everything that is mechanical is the same but I know they changed the style and function of some of teh electronics.  Hell, they do that halfway through model years these days!!!!!
