Chevrolet Repair: 1999 suburban 2500 fuel pump, fuse block, straightforward job

Question
I have a 1999 GMC 2500 Suburban. I don't hear the fuel pump come on when I turn on the key. If I spray starter fluid, it will start fine.I'm assuming I need to replace my fuel pump. Are there any fuses I should check first? Are there any special things I should know if I do this  myself or is this a "straightforward" job? Thanks for any info. Mark

Answer
Hi Mark....sounds like a fuel pump...check the relay first, it is in fuse block under the hood...if you have power in when you turn on the key and nothing out to the pump change the relay...if good change the pump...you have to remove the tank to do so....hope this helps...happy new year
