Chevrolet Repair: Chevy P/U overheating, time ron, descaler

Question
I have a 1993 1500 Chevy P/U,today it overheated and i changed the water pump thermostat and gasket, both of the temp switches one on the drivers side head and the other on the intake. When you run the truck for the thermostat to open the guage goes to 230 degrees and does not go down,My question could the radiator be clogged the guy whom i bought the truck from only put water in the system, thanks for your time ron

Answer
It's very possible that the radiator could be clogged. Feel for cold spots when the system is warm. Also try flushing out the radiator externally. It can become clogged with dirt/dust between the condenser and the radiator. You can try flushing the system with an acid based descaler like Prestone flush or replace the radiator. Make sure you keep the mix of coolant 50/50 with distilled water for the best protection.
