Chevrolet Repair: chevy differential bearing, thrust washer, crown gear

Question
i have a 1996 chevrolet w/t 1500 4X2 reg cab v6 4.3l, andi just replaced my differential bearings because the one fell apart when i was hauling a load and i put the new ones on and took the pumpkin cover off to check the rear axle and noticed the differential bearings are starting to wear again and i dont know if a pinion bearing  will cause it to do that or i didnt put them on right or the u -joint is bad. i put the truck in neutral and wiggled the driveshaft and noticed it wiggled in the back a little and when i drive it i noticed it dont want to glide as good as it should either  i have to constantly give it gas so i dont know what to replace to keep this from happening.

Answer
Hi Austin... when you put in new brgs did you check the clearance between pinion and crown gear. make sure that it is with in spec. if crown gear is sitting too deep in the pinion gear it will put outward pressure on the bearings. if you have play in the pinion brg check the lash. you may need to remove or install new thrust washers to get the right settings.to do that you need to remove diff and driveshaft remove the nut that holds pinion brg remove pinion. check brg and race if you install new ones reinstall and torque pinion to spec. install diff and rotate crown and pinion it should roll free, no binding and teeth should mesh in the middle of the pinion gear if too tight remove a thrust washer from pinion....you could use plastigauge to measure the tolerance.... hope this helps
