Chevrolet Repair: exhaust problem., obd2 code reader, chevy dealer

Question
driving to work this morning my 2003 cavalier began running rough and lost more than half it normal power, when I pulled  over to check what was wrong the tailpipe was glowing red hot.

with my OBD2 code reader all I got was random multiple misfires, changed the cat. converter but still have misfires what could cause this? the tailpipe is still getting too hot and threatens to "burnout" another converter.

Answer
your tailpipe is glowing red hot because the missfires are causeing unburnt fuel to be thrown into the cat causing extreme temperatures that WILL cause your new cat to fail.  You need to diagnose the missfire before u ruin a perfectly good cat.  On the 03 its a bit harder to check ignition missfire conditions since the coils are all in one pack mounted directly over the spark plugs.  If u r unable to diagnose this yourself i suggest you take it to ur local chevy dealer and have it diagnosed....good luck
