Chevrolet Repair: 99 blazer battery went dead, now wont start, blown fuses, open bell

Question
Hi, i have a 99 blazer vortec v6, the battery went dead due to an accessory plugged into the power point jack, when i opened the door, there was a clicking sound that seemed to have a slight tone, along the lines of the bell as if keys were in ignition and the door was open, i unplugged the item from the jack and the clicking sound stopped, then started again for about 4 seconds, i placed a charger on the battery, and allowed it to charge at 6 amps for about an hour, when i got in, all the interior lights worked as usual when opening doors, radio function normal, key in ignition with door open bell dinged, ect ect, when i turn the key to run, all the normal lights came on dash that always have, when turned to the crank position, the engine did crank normally, but would not start, tried it about 8 or 9 times, no luck, reconnected charger and began inspecting all ignition related fuses, all harness wiring, basically i climbed over, around, under, and dang near thru the vehicle, found no blown fuses, no unplugged or pinched wires, ok, as some additional information, the battery is less than a month old, i recently had a brake job done all the way around the truck, the mechanics left the ignition in the run position and drained the battery out, laff, but they said they did me a big favor and replaced the battery i bought from them 10 months before at no charge, sorry i found that extremely amusing, but i digress, in the month since, i have had no problems with the vehicle starting, but then again i have only driven it a few times for a total of about 200 miles, the blazer started several times 2 days before on some short drive errands, and was running fine when i shut it off, i have not but will check for a fuse for the fuel pump, is it possible that some ignition electronics or the fuel pump were damaged by leaving the switch in the run position until the battery went dead?, also, recently the heat valve actuator plastic thing wore out so it switches from vent to defrost now instead of blowing at your feet, i am not concerned with this issue right now, just providing as much detail on whats happened recently in all the controls, in case its related, sorry i don't have a code checking thing-a-ma-hooter, thats the industry term for us shallow end of the gene pool types

any clues you can give me would be appreciated and i thank you for your time

Answer
well, it usually takes a lot more of a charge to get any blazer to start.  6 amps for 1 hour, i am sureprised the lights turned on.  I would charge it more to get the cranking speed up.  Althoght once started it can take a lot to relearn the idle and u may have to help it along to keep it running by holding the gas.  On your other point asking where if them leaving the key on could hurt anything, i am going to have to say no it wont hurt anything otherwise everytime ur battery goes dead u would need a mechanic.  If it still does not start after charging more you should check and see if u have fuel pressure...otherwise u will have to get this checked out by a qualified technician....good luck
