Chevrolet Repair: 1965 Chevy Impala, lincoln mark vii, heater cores

Question
I need to replace the heater core. Any idea how to do this or can you point me in the right direction to find the answers.

Answer
HI JD

I found this question in the question trash can.  I can answer it once the orginal person asked throws it away.  I hope this helps.

Heater cores havent changed over the years, unfortunately.  Most often, some cars are better than others, you must pull the entire dash board off the car.  Then pull the duct work off.  You will find bolts hidden under trim, under the hood along the firewall, and other tough places.  You may have to drop the steering wheel column.

Many people sell the car before they get into this.  I have a Lincoln Mark VII LSC Special Edition.  The heater core went out in October.  $600+ to have it done and a pain in the *** for me to do it.  Computer dash, center counsel, steering column, power Ricaro seats all need to come out just to get to the duct work.  Bolts along firewall, hidden behind the stuffed in 302HO.  THEN I CAME UP WITH A BRILLANT IDEA...BARSLEAK!!!!!

I know your concerns using Barsleak.  I have them too.  Plugged head gasket, plugged radiator, etc.  I put it in, let it seal the leak...it did nicely actually.  Then flush and fill the system and get it out of there.  Barsleak is at auto parts store.

You can possibly find info to do the job on autozone.com.

Hope this helps.
