Chevrolet Repair: 2001 Chevy Malibu wheel bearing assembly, chevy malibu, backyard mechanic

Question
What tools do you need to change the front right wheel bearing assembly and what are the steps you take? What is your estimate for the approximate time it would a typical backyard mechanic to do this? I'm trying to find out if it is something I should attempt. Do you need to change both the front right and left at the same time if only one is starting to make noise? Thanks!

Answer
You only need to change the one making noise.  You will need a basic socket set with metric sockets and then you will need to rent from the local parts stroe and axle nut socket probably 34mm in size.  You have to be careful not to ruin the axle boot trying to remove the rear hub bolts.  Good luck you should be able to accomplish this in 24 hrs.  JUST KIDDING I think 2hrs would be sufficient.
