Chevrolet Repair: Temperature Gauge, monte carlo ss, temperature dips

Question
I have a 2001 Monte Carlo SS with a 3.8 V-6 engine. When the outside air temperature dips to 40 degrees or below, my temperature gauge stops working and kicks on the check engine light. I have replaced the engine coolant sensor, but it didn't cure the problem. Any ideas???

Answer
Hi Tim... thats an odd one... try checking the circut for voltage once it drops off, if you have none trace the circut and see if you can find the open. check the fuse for gauges and see if it's corroded...also make sure you are not losing ground engine to frame.... hope this helps
