Chevrolet Repair: 1996 Chevy G30 charging system, chevy g30, wire alternator

Question
It all started on a very wet day. Took the van out and after a couple of miles noticed that the gages were not working. After stopping, I checked and found the gage fuse was blown. Replaced the fuse a couple of times, it kept blowing. Went to start the van and the battery was dead.
Since this time I have replaced the battery and alternator. The gage fuse is replaced and no longer gives me any problem, but the alternator does not charge the battery. Before starting the van the battery is at 12.4 volts and after starting is at 12.1 volts and drops as time goes.
I don't know if something could have gotten wet that day and caused the problem. Is there a fuse connected to the excitation current to the alternator? Thanks for any help as to what else to check.

Answer
Mike, I think that is just a one wire alternator, and doesn't have a fues.
It does have a fusible link in the wire from the alternator to the battery, though, if I'm not mistaken.
Make sure that wire is good.
With the engine and ignition off, you should have battery voltage at the large Batt post on the alternator.
