Chevrolet Repair: 1972 350 CID chevy, low oil pressure, chevy

what would cause my distributor gear to wear out prematurely? do think it might need to be shimmed? or a hardened gear on the end of the distributor? thanks for the help

You might have just had a bad one. Unless you have extremely low oil pressure I would say there really isn't any other reason. If it has only done it to one or you haven't put another one in yet I really can't say. This isn't a common problem though. Get back to me with a follow up and let me know what happens to the next one you try.
