Chevrolet Repair: A/C, chevy 1500 silverado, 1990 chevy 1500

Question
I have a 1990 chevy 1500 silverado 2wd 1/2 ton, 305 V/8. When the air is turned on it has a squealing sound coming from around the a/c clutch area. It's very slight and then get louder when the clutch is engaged. It is still blowing cold but I hate the noise. Can you help? Thanks

Answer
Hi David, this sounds to me like you have the wrong belt on the engine. If the belt is too long the tensioner can't apply the right amount of tension and it doesn't take much. The other thing is the tensioner spring might be weak, but I have only seen a couple of these.

Hope this helps
