Chevrolet Repair: diesel injector pump problems 95 6.5 s, diesel injector pump, google search

Question
shortly after purchasing my used 1995 Chevy 2wd 3/4 ton pick up with 6.5 L turbo diesel I started experiening fuel problems. For the most part it would die when restarting hot and require several extended cranks to get it restarted. On a couple of ocassions It failed to restart. on one such occasion in '2002' I had it towed to a local Chevy dealer where they replaced the fuel driver. The engine restarted but the prolem was back within days
the dealer service department "didn't know what to tell me". Recently upon starting the engine alternating black and white smoke came from the exhaust while the engine surged then died.At this point I checked fuel flow at the filter and found that the lift pump was working so I moved on, the fuel solinoid was operating and fuel was coming from the return at the pump next I checked the injector lines and found ther to be no fuel coming from the pump.I also found the fuel driver to be very hot when the key was in the on position. I found the following DTC codes set: 35,78,84,87,99
I guess my question is, is it likely that there is an electrical problem at the root of this in which case replacing the fuel driver or pump would ultimatly lead right back to the same problems? Is ther maybe a n ECM problem as well?

Answer
Hello Kevin,
There are actually two problems with that setup.
First....and most important...there is a recall on the injector pump that extends the warranty to something like 12 years/100,000 miles. I had one replaced free last summer.
Second problem is a little modification to the driver where you get a different mount, and remove it from down in the engine where it is. The kit has a heat sink, and is mounted where the air can flow and cool it better.
I don't have either of the papers here at home, but Google search and it should find them.
