Chevrolet Repair: 83 Chev. Celeberty, oil pressure switch, engine oil pressure

Question
I have an 83 Chev. Celeberty I use for a second car, when the car is driven for a while it will kill when hot. Last time the choke light came on briefly. Someone told me that this may be caused by the carberator gasket, I understand the gasket is a heated gasket. Can you help.
Thank You

Answer
Some models came thru with a pRE-HEAT GRID built into the carb base gasket that when the engine was cold this grid would heat up the air/furl mixture to help prevent stalling due to a COLD air/fuel mixture.

You can simply UNPLUG this 2 wire connector near the base of the carb, But, I do not think that this is your problem.

i would be more suspicious of either a fault in the oil pressure switch, A heat sensitive PICKUP COIL in the distributor, or a faulty fuel injector driver in the computer.

There is a possibility that the fault is in the choke wire or choke coil and when battery voltage is cut off from the choke coil this will cause the choke coil spring to contarct and try and close the choke plate thus starving the engine of air going into the carb. It could even be a fuel pump going bad of which would cause the engine oil pressure to drop and cause the choke light to illuminate.

You have a tough one to diagnose but it is fixable.

Try and think of any and all work that has been done or components replaced prior to this problem.
