Chevrolet Repair: Lockup not engaging, chevy g20, shift into overdrive

Question
Hi Van,
I have a 1988 Chevy G20 with 350 tbi and 700r4. My problem is that the tranny won't shift into overdrive. There is power to the solenoid and the oil and filter has just been changed. Can adjusting the T.V.-cable help? Could it be a broken solenoid? Please help.

Answer
Hello Lasse,
The TV cable, if out of adjustment, could certainly keep it from shifting, I believe.
I don't claim to know much about auto transmissions, and think a transmission specialist would be the one to ask this question.
I frequent another site...a forum actually, and will send a link for it. There are hundreds of Chevy owners, service managers, mechanics, etc on that site, and someone there will be likely to know whatever you ask.
It is totally free to sign up, and if you own a Chevy, that's the best place I have seen.

It is   www.chevytalk.org/
