Chevrolet Repair: 2003 duramax, computer reset, fillup

Question
I recently changed my fuel filter. Today it just up and died. I heard there is a specific process or the computer has to be reset. What do I do?

Answer
Hi Lee,
Why it died today, probably has no connection to the fuel filter change.
here is no computer reset proceedure, nor any special process for changing them that I have ever heard of.

Of course if your old filter was terribly dirty, I might check the fuel system closer for the new problem.

First thing to check, is listen back near the fuel tank while someone turns the key to RUN, and see if you can hear the pump inside the tank buzz for about two seconds.
If not, then find and check the fuel pump fuse.

Spark also needs to be checked.

If spark is present, and you do hear the pump run, then the next thing I would do is check the fuel pressure.

But whatever you do, don't just start randomly blaming the electronics and replacing expensive parts because someones uncles friend had a car die and needed a new computer. The systems on these vehicles are very dependable, and seldom need replacement.
When things go bad, it is often because someone got a fillup of gas with a large quantity of water in it, or a rodent chewed some wires, or a connection just came loose.

Check for what I mentioned, and wiggle some connectors, especially in the area where something might have been recently worked close to.

Good luck,

Van
