Chevrolet Repair: chevy lumina temp guage, intake manifold gasket, chevy lumina

Question
I drive a '96 lumina 3.1L and I recently noticed that my temp guage will fluctuate. The needle will go about half way and then stop come back down and hesitate and then go back up and do the same thing. Under the hood there is no leak and it does not smell like antifreeze or anything. I am not sure exactly what the problem may be. Can you please help?

Answer
Hi Tim, The first thing you need to do is remove the radiator cap and see if the radiator is full to the top. If not you have a leak. The most common leak is the intake manifold gasket. This gasket can leak into the engine oil or out on the ground. If it's going into the oil thats a bad thing and you need to get it repaired soon!!

Let me know what you find
