Chevrolet Repair: Key wont work, malibu classic, lock cylinder

Question
I've had my 2004 Malibu Classic for three months and have always used the same key. Today, the key would not go into the ignition and when it finally did, the key would not start the car. What could have happened?

Is it a SECURITY SYSTEM style key that has the micro-chip embedded in the key or what ?.

If NOT a micro-key, the LOCK CYLINDER is either stuck or damaged. try inserting some GRAPHITE into the lock cylinder.

You can get it at any parts store.
