Chrysler Repair: 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan with error codes P0016 and P 0335, camshaft position sensor, dodge grand caravan

Question
QUESTION: Hi Ronald.

Thanks for the advice on my questions earlier about the camshaft position sensor.  I just finished replacing it and the error codes cleared but the problem remains.  starts and idles fine but really stutters at 2800 rpm and won't go above 3000 rpm. Any other helpful hints would be appreciated.

Thanks,

ANSWER: Hi Brad,
It is difficult to identify a specific cause for that sort of a problem without a fault code. So I would keep looking for something to show up on a readout. Assuming we have the ignition system up to par it may be related to the mixture, but exactly what is the cause needs to be found. It could be fuel starvation, it could be excess air in the mixture, or ? Am I correct in understanding that your replaced the crankshaft sensor?

QUESTION: Ronald,

Actually, it was the camshaft position sensor.  Is the crankshaft sensor worth a shot?

Thanks,

Brad

Answer
Hi Brad,
Yes, because as I listed in my first answer, the 0016 is pointing to that sensor rather than the cam sensor. However, I wouldn't replace it unless it comes up again as a fresh code. I was suggesting that you replace the crank sensor first, but if both codes are gone I wouldn't replace the crank sensor now. So keep a watch on the codes.
