Answer
Hi Garth,
In the absence of any codes related to the engine, I would suggest that you check the egr valve to make sure that its stem is moving freely and that it closes tightly via internal spring action. You will find it an narrow pipe that branches off one of the exhaust manifolds and routes to the area of the throttle body. The stem is located in a flange area between the round vacuum-operated top and the body of the valve in the pipe proper. Move the stem via the slot in its stem using the tip of a screwdriver. Try sprauing some WD-40 on the stem where it enters the valve body to free up the action. Other than that, look for vacuum leaks and keep checking for for codes. Try cleaning out the throat of the throttle body. One of those measures may solve the problem. Let me know which engine you have if you send a follow-up question. Good luck!

PS Sorry for the delay but I just found your question in the 'pool' to which it had been sent by the other expert, Kevin. Please 'rate' my answer, and where you see the question about 'volunteer of the month' please consider a 'yes' answere if this response has been helpful. Thanks
