Chrysler Repair: timing chain: 3.3L, cam sprockets, clock cam

Question
I have a 1997 dodge intrepid with a 3.3 engine I am replacing the timing chain/gear and I need to know if I have to set the engine on TDC before aligning the timimg marks?  I have allready done a valve job and reinstalled the heads

Answer
Hi David,
According to the factory manual:
The alignment is correct if the 'dots' on the edge of the crank and cam sprockets are lined up with the middle of the dark links of the timing chain AND the arrows on the sprockets point toward each other at 6 o'clock (cam) and 12 o'clock (crank) sprocket as checked with a straight edge placed between the axis of the sprockets to verify. I don't see a tie-in to the TDC so evidentally not.

PS Sorry for the delay but I just found your question in the 'pool' to which it had been referred by the other expert.
