Chrysler Repair: 1995 Chrysler Lebaron Windshield Wiper Fuse, chrysler lebaron, 1995 chrysler lebaron

Question
I have a 1995 Chrysler Lebaron GTC. This past winter I tried to turn my windshield wipers on to remove snow and they wouldn't work. I checked the fuse and it was blown. So, I went to an autoparts store and bought fuses that light up when they blow, put one in, started the car and it instantly blew. I have checked the wires for a short and they look to be in good condition. What else can cause the fuse to instantly blow when the car is started?

Answer
Hi Corey,
To begin, remove the wiper arms and then the grille that covers the intake plenum/wiper motor/wiper mechanism. Unplug the wire connector plug at the wiper motor. Then if you try a new fuse and it doesn't blow when you start the car you know it is the wiper motor itself which is the problem (I  assume that you have the wiper switch in the off position). You could open up the motor and check the internal function of the switch which 'parks' the blades to see if an internal part of that mechanism is broken and thus causing the electrical short of motor proper.
If the new fuse blows after you have pulled plug at the wiper motor, then the switch or the wiring from fuse 28 to the wiper switch is shorted to ground, or the wiring from the fuse to the vehicle theft module is shorted to ground. You would need to trace the wiring for those two items, and then check the switch for internal shorts and likewise the theft module for shorts. I can give you some direction on those if you find that the motor is not problem.
