Chrysler Repair: Fuel Leaking When I Fuel Up: 02 minivan, postal mail, xerox copy

Question
Every time I put fuel in my 2002 Chrysler T&C,fuel runs out directly under the filler neck.Do you know of any habitual problems whith the filler neck or do you think it is just the filler tube needs replacing?

Answer
Hi Brian,
According to the '02 manual if the fuel is "spit out of filler tube", this can happen either during the fill (which causes pre-mature nozzle shut off) and that can be due to about 10 different causes which I will not list here but rather await your response); or it can happen at the conclusion of the fill (which can be caused by the check valve at the opening where the fill tube joins the fuel tank, and which valve is not replaceable, which suggests a new tank is required because the valve is not replaceable; or a defective vapor/vent handling component which is a rather complicated set of items which would be best shared with you via a xerox copy of 9 pages of the manual). Those pages, plus 3 more about the tank system, would probably be of use if you want to try and sort this out.
I can copy and postal mail you these 12 pages and you could send me back 4 44-cent postage stamps to cover my costs after you receive them. I can't tell you exactly which of the possible causes is the exact cause/solution without observing exactly what is happening. I suspect that you can diagnose the problem with the aid of these pages. Another approach if this is happening near the full situation in the filling process would be to slow down on the flow rate as you calculate that the max. fill needed is approaching.

PS: Send me a 'private' follow-up with your postal mailing address should you wish me to copy the pages.
