Chrysler Repair: 96 neon no spark w/ p0340, crankshaft sensor, obd2 scan tool

Question
"hi, i have a 96 neon and it stopped running the other day. i hooked up an obd2 scan tool and got a p0340 camshaft sensor circuit code. i checked for spark and noticed i had no spark. i replaced camshaft sensor but i am getting the same problem. the power and ground wires checked out fine. the signal wire was suspect so i jumped the wire directly to the pcm and that didnt work. i also checked the crankshaft sensor with a dso but got a good square signal.when i hooked up the camshaft sensor i didnt get anything.im out of ideas please help. "

Answer
Hi Carlos,
When you installed the sensor did you press its tip against the tip of the surface it is supposed to 'sense'? It should come with a paper spacer which allows you to do that, then the paper wears away and leaves the tip of the sensor at the correct distance to produce a pulse. If you have power voltage, ground connection, then you should get a pulse on the signal wire. I can't think of any other reason, unless the timing belt is broken which would of course leave you with no rotation of the camshaft, and hence no pulse. Let me know which engine you have if none of these possibilities works out.
