Chrysler Repair: 2000 dodge caravan: no start, 4 digit numbers, dodge caravan

Question
QUESTION: have a 2000 dodge caravan dont know engine size, came out of work, car started and ran fine, went to the store shut engine down, came back out 15 min later , it started, but no power just idled with no power stepped on gas no change in rpm's, did this 5 or 6 times same results, then does not start at all.turns over fine like it is out of gas...but to make sure i put 2 gallons in it..still not starting

ANSWER: Hi Frank,
It would help to know which engine, so open the hood and take a look to what it says on the valve cover.
It sounds like a fuel mixture issue. One thing to definitely try: see if there are any fault codes stored in the engine computer which would give us a clue as to why it won't start. Turn the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time.
The watch the odometer window in the instrument cluster to see if the mileage changes to show some 4-digit numbers, preceded by a P. If so, write those down and get back to me with the results. It could also be the exhause gas recirculation valve is stuck ajar which is leaning out the mixture too much to sustain an idle. Tell me which engine so I can give you the details.
Do you hear the fuel pump run for about 1 second (its in the fuel tank so listen at the rear while a helper turns the key to the 'run' position, but without trying to start it)? That is normal, otherwise if nothing humms inside the tank then probably the pump or the pump relay has gone bad.
Those are the clues we need to get it to start.

Hi Frank,
If you are certain that the fuel pump doesn't hum for even a second when you turn the key to run, then I would suggest that you check fuse 17 in the electrical power box under the hood on the driver's side inner fender to be sure it hasn't blown. You could also listen/feel the fuel pump relay in that same box to find out if it clicks when you turn the key to the run position It is located near fuses 1 and 18 on the edge of the box. If it doesn't click then check fuse 23 in the box. Let me know what you find. I am concerned that you see no codes but we'll deal with that later if necessary.
