Chrysler Repair: 1997 Town and Country does not start, fuel pump relay, gas gauge

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1997 Town and Country 3.8 AWD.
My wife and I love this vehicle. It has 134,000 vehicles on it.
The problem is this summer it started to have a strange starting problem. It would crank strong and start up immediately and run for about 5 seconds with no sputter. Then instantly die like you turned car off. It was an intermittent problem that just got worst
We always knew that the engine would stay on if the gas gas  gauge would move. It does not budge when you turn the ignition. Note there is always plenty of gas in van. It does not matter if you have an 1/8 of a tank or full tank. I am not a mechanic but a friend told me that I should replace the fuel pump relay. I did replace it with a napa one (even though car was running ok that day).
I thought i fixed the problem as it has same issues now.
three months later.
Thanks!

ANSWER: Hi George,
Two possibilities, at least. One is that the vehicle theft security system is not being disarmed when you open the door and so it is behaving as if you are a thief. This is particularly true if the time from start to spontaneous shut down is always the same. You might try entering the van through the passenger door lock if that is the case as you may have a broken/flaky connection from the drivers lock to the body computer. The other approach is to just avoid arming the system by always securing the van by means of the mechanical lock buttons on the doors; don't use the door key, the power locks or the the key fob if you have it.
The other possibility is a very regular fault in the engine control system. Try using the ignition key: "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch either the check engine light and notice that while it remains 'on' it may soon begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure of a consistent set of flash counts. Let me know what the counts are in order of appearance. If that doesn't happen then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage changes to show instead a 4-digit number, prefixed by a P. Let me know that number which is called a fault code, and we'll go from there.

QUESTION: Thank you for quick response. The car blinks service engine soon light
5 times in a row . It does this twice
i did forget to mention the alarm on car went off this morning when wife
opened passenger door. However the problem I had 3 months intermittently , the alarm never had gone off. Gracias

Answer
Hi George,
The double 5 means there are no noticed fault codes stored in the memory.
I am unclear when you say 'went off', do you mean it alarmed or that it was disarmed?
Repairing the cause in any case may not be worth it, but by never using the alarm feature this is a 'work around'
When you say alarm went off this morning, I presume you meant it disarmed, correct?  If so, then use the passenger door to unlock only until wire from driver door is repaired. It it alarmed on her, then the right door wire is bad too. So try not setting systen at all, and then if that is the answer to the 5 second die-off, and you want to have the alarm feature then we can figure out exactly what might be the best way to get the system back to normal.
