Chrysler Repair: 99 Chrysler 300: battery drain/discharge when locked, security alarm system, chrysler 300

Question
The headlights on my 99 Chrysler 300 blink every 30 seconds, which ends up draining the battery if I don't pull the fuse on that circuit. I have replaced the automatic switch located on the left side of the dash next to the steering wheel, but it continues. I do know that the problem is on the same circuit as the radio and the door locks. When I remove the fuse on that circuit, the lights stop blinking. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi John,
That fuse #19 is called the "ignition off draw" and it powers many devices that require power even though the car is not in use. I think the light flashing is related to the vehicle theft security system being alarmed after having been armed when you shut the car down. So you need to determine why it is alarming. It could be that one of the door latches or trunk latch is not being secured tightly enough so you need to push outward on each of the door to see if the door ajar warning light comes on the dash and if you find one then move the striker pin in the door frame for that door inboard a bit. Until you figure out the cause the best way to avoid draining the battery is to simply not utilize the security alarm system at all. To do that simply never secure the car by means of the power locks, the door key, or the remote fob. Rather push the interior mechanical door lock buttons and then exit the car (like in the 'good old days'). Then you should not have the light flashing occur and no loss of battery charge.
