Chrysler Repair: 1999 Sebring V-6 2.5: no start, engine controller, position sensor

Question
No start.  Worked great when shut off.  Next morning, no start.  Towed to dealer who comes back and says he 'thinks' it is the distributor for which he wants $1900.00 (Canadia funds) plus a hundred bucks for install.
I did'nt realize they were still using distributors on this model.  I used to train on scanners and diagnostics but have been retired for a while now.

Answer
What fault codes readout from the engine controller? A 0340 code would implicate the need for a distributor replacement, but the price is over the top. If the code is 0340 then look for a rebuild or a used one from a wreck. A code 0320 is the crank position sensor, a much cheaper part. If neither of those, the tell me what codes it shows. Simple on-off-on-0ff-on leave on with the ignition key will show the codes in the odometer window.
