Chrysler Repair: 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan ES: codes 0122, 0201, 1478, dodge grand caravan, throttle position sensor

Question
Codes 1684,0201,0122,1478 came up and van will only drive for a good 5-10 miles then battery light and engine light comes on even after we changed the battery with a new one. Catalytic converter was also replaced and sparks and wiring sets were also replaced.

Answer
Hi Verna,
The 1684 merely says that the battery was disconnected recently...when you replaced the battery seems to be the reason for that code, so ignore it.
The 0122 says the throttle position sensor (located on the throttle body) is not showing the correct voltage setting. It could either be a defective sensor or a problem with one of three wires that connect it to the engine computer is shorted or 'open'. This is a pretty simple issue to solve by inspecting the wire and the function of the sensor. The sensor itself is under $100. If you have a volt-ohmmeter I can tell you what to check. But tell me which size engine you have. The consequences of this situation would be a poor mixture and therefor loss of power/loss of economy, excess exhaust temperatures/emissions.
The 0201 says the the fuel injector electric coil for cylinder #1 is not responding properly. That may be due to its wire, or the injector coil may be 'open' and that the injector needs to be replaced. Again, fairly easy to diagnose and repair. It would be noticed as a 'miss' on that one cylinder.
The 1478 is related to the battery temperature sensor which helps determine the proper charging voltage for the alternator, but it is used only if you have a diesel engine according to the manual. If that is the case, then that sensor may be unplugged or defective. It is near the battery but I can't describe exactly the location. If it were not working properly that might explain why the battery light is coming on. Do you have a diesel engine?
