Chrysler Repair: Timing (set up after broken belt): 3.0L, oil pump housing, interference engine

Question
QUESTION: I have a Chrysler Le baron 1993 3.0L 6 Cyl. My timing belt broke, I know that this engine is an interference engine and that I may have sustaiened engine damage. At this point however I am trying to install a new timing belt. How would I find out if the no 1 cyl is in tdc on the compression stroke without further possible damage to the engine? Would I also need to set up the camshafts for the same thing. I am unsure how to do this. Thank you

ANSWER: Hi Bobby,
I don't believe it has interference issues, but in any case take a look at:

Then write back with specifics that are unclear.

PS I checked the manual and there is no interference question with that engine so there should be no damage and no need to be concerned about turning the cam shafts.

QUESTION: What I am unsure of is if, when I set the crankshat timing gear so the the mark on the timing gear is matched up with the mark on the oil pump housing, if that is tdc for Cyl 1. If not how can I verify that I have gotten to that position?

Answer
That is the timing mark and so don't be concerned that it is not. It is TDC for # 1. Get the sprocket on their marks, start by putting belt on the crank sprocket and continue counterclockwise keeping tension on the belt at all times, then once it is on turn the sprocket on the front cam shaft in the clockwise direction and make sure all marks are aligned, then install flange on crank sproket, then release tensioner to allow it to tension the belt. Then turn crank sprocket two full revoltions in the clockwise direction only and recheck the marks. The tighten up the tensioner locking bolt
