Chrysler Repair: 98 Voyager: Heater always on, plymouth voyager, c button

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland - 98 Plymouth voyager heater is always on regardless of where I set the temp slide control. I have replaced the climate control circuit board, pushed the appropriate buttons to get all Leds to light. It goes through the diagnostic mode but ultimately all Leds just end up blinking. Manual climate control, not auto. Thanks for any help you can provide.

ANSWER: Hi Tony,
Is there any numerical pattern to the flashing of the 4 LED's after you do the calibration? Do it again and observe carefully for a pattern of flashing of each of the LED's and then tell me what it is. Probably be blend door actuator is not working or the door itself is binding up.
The actuator is on the left side of the heater/ac housing, and you go for it by removing the lower steering column cover on the driver side (screws on top/bottom/left/right sides, also remove brake release pull handle and cable to allow cover to be dropped down for removal), then the ABS module if you have ABS. It is the mid-level actuator, just above what looks like a duct. Note position of actuator and gear with which it meshes. Then try to see if gear will move the door, by hand. If so, then blend actuator may be binding/damaged.

QUESTION: Hi Roland – when I hold the wiper and rear wiper buttons down, the wiper and intermittent LEDs start alternately blinking. After a minute or so, the wiper LED flashes once and then the intermittent wiper LED flashes 4 times. This cycle repeats and keeps going. One way I can get it to stop is by pressing the rear wiper button and A/C button simultaneously. I then get the intermittent wiper LED flickering continuously while the wiper LED blinks twice. This cycle also does not stop. When the vehicle is running its diagnostics, I feel the air being directed through the various vents, even with the A/C compressor kicking in, but no cool air. Just continuous hot air, and if you press the A/C button by itself, no LED comes on at all. Thanks again!

Answer
Hi Tony,
The 1/4 result corroborates exactly what I said, that the blend air door although being instructed to move to send the air through the AC evaporator it is not so-doing (e.g. it didn't get all the way over to the end of its range of movement; the door is either jambed or the actuator isn't trying to move it). So follow my earlier instruction, go to the actuator and remove it (3 screws). Note the position of the connection between the actuator and door lever as you will want to reconnect them later. Then try to move the door by hand. If it moves well, then do the test again and see if the actuator will move when it isn't mechanically connected. If not then that is the problem and you need a new actuator (assuming the wiring from the control head to the actuator is ok). On the Chrysler and more expensive Dodge vans the system actually has 2 blend door actuators so the driver and passenger can have different cooling levels. But I suspect the Plymouth may only have a single blend door. If by chance you have the deluxe then there are two actuators side by side in the same location.
